United Airports of Georgia Director says talks ongoing with airlines for more flights with Germany for Euro 2024

Irakli Karkashadze, the Director of the United Airports of Georgia, on Thursday said talks were ongoing with both foreign and domestic airline companies to increase the number of flights with Germany and add charter connections during the upcoming Euro 2024 football championship.

We will definitely try to fully satisfy all the requests that will exist regarding the flights”, Karkashadze said.

The Civil Aviation Agency on Wednesday said four airlines would operate regular flights between Georgia and Germany during the Championship, offering service in eight directions with about 30 flights per week.

The body added a 30 percent increase in flights was planned between June and July compared to the same period in 2023.

The planned regular flights with their respective directions and frequencies are as follows:

Georgian Airways:

• Tbilisi – Munich – Tbilisi: three times per week
• Tbilisi – Berlin – Tbilisi: two times per week

Wizz Air:

• Kutaisi – Berlin – Kutaisi: three times per week
• Kutaisi – Dortmund – Kutaisi: two times per week
• Kutaisi – Memmingen – Kutaisi: three times per week
• Kutaisi – Hamburg – Kutaisi: two times per week
• Kutaisi – Frankfurt – Kutaisi: two times per week

Lufthansa:

• Munich – Tbilisi – Munich: 10 times per week

Eurowings:

• Berlin – Tbilisi – Berlin: one per week
• Düsseldorf – Tbilisi – Düsseldorf: two times per week

Flights to Europe, including Germany, will be operated by 10 airlines across 39 routes, with a frequency of approximately 130-140 per week during the period.

The increased interest in flights comes after Georgia’s national football claimed its first-ever spot at the European Championships after defeating Greece in the playoff final for the tournament on Tuesday.

The team will play their first match at the competition against Turkey on June 18 in Dortmund, with other group stage games set against the Czech Republic on June 22 in Hamburg and Portugal on June 26 in Gelsenkirchen.
